Anatomy and Physiology Lesson Plan Draft

When thinking about this project, I want to be able to incorporate comprehension, analysis, and knowledge over the course of 3 weeks.  The first segment of the activity entails dissection of a cat cadaver.  I will break up the class into groups and assign each group specific muscles to find, isolate, and capture on the cadaver.  Once all muscles are found and captured, then the group will have to demonstrate knowledge using the A.nnotate.  “A.nnotate lets you easily add notes and comments to PDFs (and other types of document including MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel).  It runs in most common browsers and there is no software to install so it is the ideal tool for helping individuals and groups manage and collaborate on their documents. Users do not need to install any plug-ins like Acrobat or Adobe reader as A.nnotate simply runs in the browser. Once you have uploaded a document you can invite any number of annotators to view it and add their comments - there is no extra charge for annotating users” (http://a.nnotate.com/pdf-annotation.html).  After each image is uploaded and labeled in the A.nnotate, then the group can start working on their presentation that will be presented to the rest of the class.  The presentation will include what muscles were assigned, the tactics used in order to find the muscles and accurately identify them, and the functions of the muscles.  It is important that the students relay accurate information and take good pictures, for the other students in the class are depending on their information to be correct for the assessment at the end of the 3 week activity.  After the group presents, then the presentation/notes has to be uploaded onto Notemesh and shared with the class group. “Users can share their notes with other students in the same class in a database, called ¨wiki¨, where notes can be reviewed, added, and fixed. Errors can be erased and are kept in a file so viewers can see the changes that have been made. This is a way for students to collaborate on knowledge building and keep up with the class. Students of the world can interact within this online community and compare their own understanding to that of other classmates” (http://www.killerstartups.com/social-networking/notemesh-comcollaborate-to-graduate/).

The intended objectives for my Anatomy and Physiology dissection presentation are laid out as such:
After this activity, the student will be able to:
  • Identify assigned muscles of the body
  • Classify the main functions of assigned muscles
  • Demonstrate the use of Web 2.0 technologies

The instructional strategies that will be emphasized in this activity include simulation, discussion, and cooperative learning.  Simulation will be acted out through the actual dissection and the isolation of the muscles.  Discussion will be illustrated through the presentation as students will communicate their findings to their fellow classmates.  This is where any questions can be answered as well.  Cooperative learning will come through the application of Notemesh and the students using each others notes/presentations to study for the exam of the muscles.

The technologies used in this activity include A.nnotate, Notemesh, and Microsoft PowerPoint.  A.nnotate will be used for students to upload their images of their assigned muscles and label them for the rest of the class to use.  Notemesh is used with the same basic context, but with notes from the PowerPoint presentations the students do.  Microsoft PowerPoint is the tool used to make the presentations.

The assessment for this activity is an exam at the end of the 3 weeks.  It will include every

muscle that was assigned, the functions of the muscles, and images of each muscle.
